Monika M. Santiago
Thank you for your interest in Delta Epsilon Phi and I hope you will enjoy your association with this
chapter. The purpose of this organization is to recognize high school scholastic achievement in the
study of German and to promote interest in the study of German language, literature, and
civilization. The organization is a national educational honorary society for the study of high school
German and is sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of German (AATG). There are
over 900 chapters of Delta Epsilon Phi nationwide.
To be eligible for induction, students must have completed at least four semesters of German.
During these four semesters (level 1 and 2), inductees must have attained an overall grade point
average of 3.0 and a German grade point average of 3.6 (on a 4-point scale), and participated actively
in service, academic and public relations activities.
In March, the sponsor will select eligible students to become a member of the national German
Honor Society. The initiation ceremony will take place in May.
Kaethe Wilson Memorial Scholarship
Each year Delta Epsilon Phi funds a full scholarship for German summer study, named in honor of
Kaethe Wilson, founder of Delta Epsilon Phi. Through the AATG program, the student spends four
weeks in Germany with a German family, attends a Gymnasium (senior high school), and
participates in excursions. Scholarship winners are responsible only for their own domestic
transportation to and from the departure city. Each chapter sponsor may recommend only one
candidate for the scholarship each year. Eligibility requirements will be available in February.
Application deadline is on or about March 1.
